“As a family we have all benefited hugely from Katherine's expertise and treatment. She has treated both my children through sporting injuries, soreness through growth spurts and tenseness from anxiety. She's treated my husband and myself through a range of injuries from work and sports, keeping us moving and pain free. And she's treated my parents helping them to stay supply and active through their retirement years. All with a calm, supportive and caring manner. I can't recommend her enough!” S.Hogg
At Hands on Care we have made the decision to treat children from around the age of 7yrs. While osteopathy is most definitely safe and beneficial for every age (we have treated from 3 days old to 97yrs) we recognise that treating babies and the little ones is a specialised area. We would be more than happy to have a chat with you about how osteopathy can benefit the little ones and refer you on to someone who can help.
As children grow there is much change and this can lead to specific age-related issues such as:
- Scoliosis – curvature of the spine – often diagnosed during adolescence
- Osgood- Schlatter Disease – Pain at the front of the knee in active adolescents
- Sever’s Disease – inflammation around the back of the heel in growing children
- Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis – cause of hip pain in adolescents
- Growing pains
Children will also experience injuries from sports and other accidents.
Older children and teenagers may experience aches and pains, possibly associated headaches, caused by long periods of time bent over desks studying or using phones and computers. Exam stresses and other worries may also be expressed in physical discomfort.
As well as addressing specific problems Osteopaths are well place to help educate children about body awareness as well as helping them start good health habits young.
We realise medical appointments can be intimidating for children. We strive to create a friendly and welcoming environment, ensuring your child feels comfortable and at ease during their visits.
Please note that children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to every appointment. (This responsibility may not be delegated to other family members or carers and is not assumed by step-parents).
