Osteopathy for the older patient

Please don’t assume that your aches and pains are age related and that there is nothing that can be done. Get in touch and see if we can help.

“I had put up with neck pain for some time and my Daughter-in-law, who attends the clinic, suggested that I make an appointment with Katherine. The pain in my neck extended from my head down to the right shoulder blade, making it difficult for me to turn my head to the right. Katherine explained fully what was happening and put me at ease when she began treatment. Yes it was painful at first but I realised the exercises she asked me to perform would get to the root of the pain. There was improvement after each of my three sessions and I was finally able to turn my head freely to the right without pain and discomfort. From the results of my treatment, I thoroughly recommend Katherine Terry to anyone in pain or discomfort.” E.Acerman

“Katherine has been a tremendous support to me in maintaining a recurrent hip problem and was able to diagnose and treat a neck problem successfully. I have seen her for approximately 4 years and she has been extremely supportive and encouraging. She is very professional, extremely knowledgeable, understanding and was very thorough in her treatment of my condition, always offering suggestions as to exercises and the way forward. She also treated me with acupuncture which was always very helpful.

I would have no reservations in recommending Katherine as a very professional osteopath.” K.Morgan

"Yet another good experience with Katherine. This lady is top class when it comes to healing and making you feel well. As age creeps up on us we all need help to ease our pains and aches and this lady has the ability to do that. Wholly recommend this talented lady to anyone who is in pain or needs help". P. We love treating our older patients and due to the nature of some conditions of older age, such as arthritis, we often see them more frequently and get to know their families as well.

We provide hands on treatment for pain relief and also have the time and expertise to advise on a wide range of issues that we will encounter as we age.

  1. Pain Management

One of the most common challenges for the elderly is pain, often related to conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, or joint degeneration. Osteopathic treatment employs gentle, hands-on techniques to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and enhance joint mobility, providing seniors with a better quality of life.

  1. Improved Mobility

Osteopathic care focuses on restoring and maintaining the body's natural balance. By addressing musculoskeletal issues, such as stiffness or limited range of motion, seniors can experience improved mobility, making daily activities easier and more enjoyable.

  1. Enhanced Circulation

Osteopathy can aid in enhancing blood flow and circulation, which is particularly important for the elderly. Improved circulation promotes better healing, tissue repair, and can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems.

  1. Falls Prevention

Falls are a significant concern for the elderly, often leading to serious injuries. Osteopathic treatment includes balance-enhancing exercises and techniques, which can help reduce the risk of falls and improve stability. We can refer patients on to Active 4 Health programs. This is a subsidised 12 week exercise program that can be tailored to the individual.  One option that is available on this program is OTTAGO which is a specific exercise program to address the risk of falls.

  1. Stress Reduction

Aging can bring about emotional and mental stress. Many of our older patients care for their spouse or other relatives.  We are members of the Carer Friendly Community so offer discounts to card holders. Osteopathic sessions not only focus on physical health but also promote relaxation and stress reduction, contributing to a better overall sense of wellbeing.

  1. Tailored Treatment

Osteopathic care is highly individualised. Practitioners assess each senior's unique needs and tailor treatment plans accordingly, ensuring that the care provided is specific to their condition and comfort.

  1. Complementary to Other Therapies

Osteopathy can be integrated into a broader healthcare strategy, complementing other treatments or medications prescribed by medical professionals.
